Sen. Kennedy joins the blogosphere!

Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) has joined a growing number of Democratic elected officials who post on the big national blog site, The Daily Kos. Representatives John Conyers (D-MI) and Louise Slaughter (D-NY) are regular posters, and I have even seen a diary or two by Senators John Corzine (D-NJ), Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Russ Feingold (D-WI). There may be others.

Kennedy's appearance on The Daily Kos -- his first to my knowledge -- signals its growing importance as a forum for Democratic oriented political discussion, as well as place for national visibility in the run up to the 2006 elections.

Today, Senator Kennedy addresses the contents of the now famous "Downing Street minutes" which he describes as confirming that "the Bush Administration was determined to go to war in Iraq, regardless of whether there was any credible justification for doing so. The Administration distorted and misrepresented the intelligence in its attempt to link Saddam Hussein with the terrorists of 9/11 and Osama bin Laden, and with weapons of mass destruction that Iraq did not have."

Check it out.

And with breathtaking speed, the Right will attempt to further place the hit on dKos as a "Moveon leftist haven for far-left extremists" and then after they tag it, they'll hold Kennedy's posting there as proof that Kennedy is out of the mainstream.

Oh, sorry...was that cynical of me? :) You watch though...the pattern of progressive orgs gaining power and then getting into the crosshairs of the entire right wing is notorious. I know Kos already is under fire a lot, but gets no where near the smear factor of Moveon and other progressive groups that have broken through the halls of power.
